On land, there are varieties of activities to choose from, such as horseback riding and golf. However, since sea conditions near Avalon are typically calm, water related activities like para-sailing and riding Waverunners are popular. |

Though most of the activity operations at Catalina remain open year-round, some close due to poor weather or when tourism is slow. If in doubt, visitors should confirm the operating status of the activity they wish to participate in before departing for the island, especially during winter (October through April). Two Harbors is a rustic island location with lots of history. Its atmosphere is entirely different from that of Avalon, boasting a blend of Caribbean Island lore, remoteness and relaxation. Its undeveloped hillsides, ocean front bays, and rustic charms have in past decades inspired Hollywood movie makers to use Two Harbors as a "South Seas" back lot for filming such classics as "Mutiny on the Bounty" and "Old Ironsides."
Today, those South Sea charms are the predominate features that attract people to Two Harbors. Though the area is civilly fortified, it remains, for the most part, undeveloped. Besides common activities like tanning, relaxing at Doug's Harbor Reef Saloon or picnicking, the Two Harbors operation offers a variety of organized and self initiated activities for which to participate.
Catalina Island, All You Need To Know covers these activities and also provides a segment about Two Harbors history.
Jon Hardy of ScubaLab says, "An extremely useful aspect of this book is that it gives a full detailed range of activities for your non-diving friends and family. Catalina is a place to be experienced both above and below the water, and this handy volume helps you do just that."
